Comments & Images By Jeff Bean

I have been admiring the new Sig Rascal from afar only to see a post by Jeff Bean on his.

Below are 5 pictures from Jeff and the comments I got from his correspondence, Jeff does nice work!

I think that the Sig ad is going to sell a lot of kits.  I admired the picture so much that I covered and trimmed mine exactly like the one in the ad.

The kit is a pleasure to build.  Sig obviously put quite a lot of work into the development of this kit.  Extensive, very clear instructions with lots of pictures.  Everything is laser cut (even the wing sheeting) and fits perfectly.  The initial run of kits had some problems with the fit of some of the parts.  Sig sent me a replacement set of parts before I even started on the kit -- without my asking for them!

I used the exact setup they recommended in the kit.  Pixie 14 ESC, 8 600AE cells, a 6v Speed 400, Maxx 2.1:1 gearbox and APC 8x6E prop.  Current draw with that setup is around 9.5 amps.  I am going to try a 9x6 prop soon.

My final weight was 23 oz. I believe the advertised weight is 24 oz.

It will ROG from our packed dirt field and flies very well and can do all the rudder and elevator aerobatics I can think of including quite a good looking barrel roll.  I've only flown it three times -- those were all 6 to 7 minute flights.

There are pre-cut holes in the wing ribs that make one think that they were considering an aileron option, but the instructions make no mention of it.  I also think it would be a pain to do and add a fair amount of weight, given the elliptical shape of the wing.  As far as I am concerned it meets my needs as is -- a simple sport flier that flies well, looks good and is fun to build.

Jeff Bean
